Senior Curriculum

At the heart of our Senior School curriculum is a commitment to breadth, depth and a creative approach to teaching and learning that encourages active engagement and a spirit of enquiry in our learners.

As pupils enter Year 7, our teaching team are experts at providing both the scaffolding and independence that our students need to succeed. Our specialist Year 7 team, led by Mr Kelly, are highly experienced at supporting students in Year 7 in developing as independent learners and making the most of the lunchtime academic support clinics and supervised after school Prep sessions to complete homework and classwork with confidence.

Year 7 is such an exciting year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build independence and take on new challenges! Most importantly of all, I enjoy watching and supporting pupils as they quickly build friendships, take on new clubs and interests and develop responsibility for their own learning. It is a privilege to watch them as their confidence flourishes and they quickly settle into Senior School life.

Mr Kelly - Head of Year 7

As pupils progress up through the Senior School, they benefit from the opportunity to engage in a wide range of academic extension, from the Extended Project Qualification, to Public Speaking, Debating, STEM projects and much more.

All our Senior School teachers are specialists in their subject areas, providing opportunities to stretch and support our learners. From Year 7, there are flexible groupings that enable pupils to progress through the timetable in 6 or 7 teaching groups. This is a wonderful way to build friendships across the year group.

In Year 9, pupils select their GCSE choices, which they study in Years 10 and 11. Students study 10 subjects to GCSE level, with English, Mathematics, and Science being compulsory. All pupils have PE in their weekly timetable, even if they are not studying it for GCSE, along with weekly lessons which cover careers, life skills and preparation for Sixth Form or life beyond Cranford School.

In Year 11, pupils make a selection for A-level, typically choosing 3 A-levels and an Extended Project Qualification. Some pupils will choose to take 4 A-levels in discussion with our Sixth Form team if this is suitable for their future aspirations.
