Senior Sports

The sporting ethos of Cranford is one of sport for all. As a small school, a huge proportion of our pupils get to play in school teams, while the spirit of inclusion which is so much a part of our school life means that sport is open to everyone.

Timetabled lessons for all Senior pupils, plus an incredible range of extra-curricular sports clubs which take in everything from trampolining to martial arts, allow all our pupils to find an activity that enthuses them.

Years 7-9 Sport

Pupils in Years 7-9 have PE lessons every day. The main sports in Key Stage 3 are:

  • Boys: Football, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis
  • Girls: Netball, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis

These sports run during the pupil's games session and this is the time when our pupils will play regular competitive fixtures against other schools. Throughout the year, these sports are also supplemented by a range of extra skills and sports in both our PE curriculum and Club offerings, such as swimming, gymnastics, trampolining, badminton, athletics, cross country, girls' football, rowing, judo.

Years 10-12 Sports

In year 10-12 pupils have sport regularly across the week. The main sports are:

  • Boys: Football, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis
  • Girls: Netball, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis

These sports run during the pupil's games session and this is the time when our pupils will play regular competitive fixtures against other schools. We also offer alternatives such as fitness, yoga, handball, badminton, touch rugby, well-being runs for those who opt out of playing competitive fixtures.

Curriculum wise, GCSE PE proves a very popular choice among pupils. This is taught as a specific curriculum option and does not detract from the regular timetabled sport in which all pupils participate in Years 10 and 11.

Our sporting academies are a major focus within our co-curricular club’s programme and are highly recommended to all pupils wishing to participate in fixtures and competitions. Offered across our major sports, these specialist academies emphasise additional development of key skills, technical awareness and positional play giving pupils the opportunity to play key sports all year-round.
