Cranford offers both sport for all, within an inclusive and encouraging environment, and pathways to excellence within sport, with a great many pupils playing representative, county, regional and national sport beyond school. The school regularly competes in county and regional competitions, with up to two hours of sport every day available to pupils in Year 7 to Year 9, through a combination of curricular and co-curricular provision, our pupils have ample opportunities to develop their skills and play competitive matches.
Alongside this, our inclusive approach ensures every pupil who wishes to play competitive sport is able to represent the school in teams. Almost all pupils across Year 7-9 will represent the school in fixtures every term. The PE curriculum is divided in Physical Education and Games. During Physical Education lessons pupils are provided with an opportunity to develop a strong and positive relationship with health and well-being, build good movement patterns, understand and implement strength and conditioning programmes as well as being introduced to a broad range of sports.
The Games provision enables pupils to have a broad and enjoyable opportunity to take part in carefully structured, supportive school fixtures that are divided by ability to ensure every pupil benefits from and crucially enjoys the experience.
Sport is a wonderful opportunity to build friends, take on new challenges and enjoy the match teas!
In (Years 7-13) Games lessons, the main sports for competitive fixtures are:
However, in addition to our main sports, we encourage pupils to enjoy competitive fixtures and tournaments in other sports including Gymnastics, Equestrian, Swimming and American Football.
Fixtures are an important part of school life and a great opportunity for pupils to develop their skill set in a competitive environment as well as harnessing skills of teamwork, leadership and self-esteem.
Our Cranford Sports Fixtures Portal allows parents to check out all Fixtures information in just a click of a button! Here you’ll be able to access Teams Fixtures and Results, the Sports Calendar, Sports News, Team sheets and much more.
Extra-curricular sport is an integral part of school life. Sports activities take place before, during and after school. Pupils experience a wide range of sport delivered by our specialist PE Staff which ensures we cater for all abilities and interests. These sports also have a focus on encouraging an appreciation of a healthy lifestyle.
With over 30 sports on offer, within the Clubs & Activities programme, these sessions allow pupils to develop a range of skills, both physically and socially, in addition to the Physical Education and sport already offered within the Senior School curriculum.
Our sporting academies are a major focus within our co-curricular club’s programme and are highly recommended to all pupils wishing to participate in fixtures and competitions. Offered across our major sports, these specialist academies emphasise additional development of key skills, technical awareness and positional play giving pupils the opportunity to play key sports all year-round. Cranford Sport Academies further enhance our success within fixtures and national competitions.
